Tulsa’s Young Professionals was founded in 2005 in response to the region’s “brain drain” of new graduates and young professionals to other cities and states. The organization is a key component of the Tulsa Metro Chamber’s regional economic development plan, Tulsa’s Future.

Tulsa Metro Chamber hosts regional higher ed forum to discuss how to clog the “brain drain”
2005
• Tulsa Metro Chamber launches Tulsa’s Young Professionals (TYPros) to retain and attract YPs
• TYPros quickly grows to more than 1,400 members
• TYPros establishes seven work crews
• TYPros forms an advisory council made of up area business, community and government leaders
• TYPros begins to host numerous events to engage area YPs, including the Unplugged Series
2006
• TYPros hosts a YP Day at the Capitol to promote a bill drafted in part by the Government Relations crew
• TYPros grows to 2,500 members, making it one of the fastest growing YP groups in the nation
• TYPros expands to include nine work crews
• The Colleges & Universities crew launches the InternInTulsa.com Web site
• The Marketing crew launches community-pride campaign called “I am Tulsa”
2007
• TYPros continued its Intern In Tulsa initiative, creating a comprehensive guide for area employers
• The Business Development Crew began work to create a business incubator for YP entrepreneurs
• TYPros supports its first position on a political issue with the Rock the River campaign
• TYPros expands its list of events to include D2: Diversity and Dialogue and others
2008
• TYPros reaches a milestone, announcing the organization had reached 5,000 members
• TYPros begins to produce vidcasts to highlight and promote special events
• TYPros begins participating in social media outlets, including MySpace and Facebook
• TYPros establishes a Sustainability crew to focus on green issues
2009
• TYPros grows to more than 6,300 members
• TYPros hosts a downtown brainstorming session to discuss the importance of downtown revitalization
• Members raise more than $12,000 for TYPros’ community initiative, the most in TYPros’ history
• TYPros’ centennial gift to the city, a 12-foot sculpture, is unveiled at a park in downtown Tulsa
