About YWCA
Since its founding in 1914, YWCA Tulsa has continually served the needs of women, their families and the community of Tulsa. In its earliest years, YWCA Tulsa offered inexpensive meals, lodging and occupational training to young women. In 1921, YWCA Tulsa opened a center in north Tulsa to provide housing, food and job training for young African American women left homeless by the Race Riot. In the 1930s, it provided job training to hundreds of women, and in more recent years, it has guided women through times of crisis, helped newcomers to America and educated young children through their most formative years.

YWCA Tulsa’s programs are designed to help women, men and their families through every phase of life, from early childhood through senior citizenship. Each year, approximately 20,000 to 25,000 people participate in YWCA programs including:

• Affordable, high-quality child care and youth development services for working families (611 children served in 2010).
• Specialized services to help immigrants & refugees develop the skills to function successfully in our complex society (11,754 people served in 2010).
• Counseling and career assessment for the unemployed, working poor, and people in transition or crisis (3,695 people served in 2010).
• Health, wellness and fitness education in facilities with handicap accessible pools for aquatic exercise and rehabilitation (2,887 people served in 2010).
• Services to help senior citizens remain healthy and involved in community life (735 seniors served in 2010).
• Racial justice programs including discussion groups, book clubs and awareness initiatives to create a more unified Tulsa (2,166 served in 2010).
